Vaughan has plenty of big front doors, many of them wide, heavy and fitted with hardware that is more complicated than a standard deadbolt. That hardware needs occasional attention.
Multipoint locks
A handle lift engages several locking points. When the door shifts, the hooks stop lining up, and the handle gets stiff. Do not force it. See multipoint lock repair.
Double doors
Double doors have an active leaf and an inactive one, held by flush bolts. If the flush bolts wear, the inactive door can shift and stop the active door from latching. A slight adjustment usually fixes it.
Heavy custom doors
Wood and iron doors are heavy. Hinges wear, and the frame can pull. Three or four hinges, with long screws into the framing, keep the door true.
Smart lock retrofits
Many owners in Vaughan want a keypad or a phone-controlled lock. On heavy doors, the lock must be strong enough and the door must close squarely. Ask before you buy.
Weather
Cold snaps stiffen seals and make doors harder to close. If your door needs a push in winter, a small seal or hinge adjustment can save your lock.
Security upgrades
A strong strike plate, a reinforced frame and a good deadbolt matter more than an expensive handle. See high-security lock installation.

Big doors have big demands
Large doors are heavy and their hinges carry a lot of load. Over time, sag makes the latch bind and the deadbolt struggle to reach the strike. A properly adjusted hinge set and a reinforced frame stops this.
Locks for large entrances
Multipoint locks and double doors need matching adjustments. When adding smart hardware, check the space in the door and the length of the bolt. Ask for a technician who has handled heavy doors before.
