Lakeshore condo towers in Etobicoke share a common set of lock questions. The answers depend on who controls each door.
Fobs and building doors
Management issues and cancels fobs. If you lose one, report it immediately.
Suite doors
Your unit door is usually yours to maintain, within the building’s rules. Fire-rated suite doors must keep their rating.
If you are locked out
- Call concierge or management; some hold a key.
- If a locksmith is needed, have ID and proof of tenancy or ownership.
- Tell the building you are coming.
Mailboxes
Most condo mailboxes are controlled by Canada Post or the corporation. See mailbox lock replacement.
Lockers and parking
Storage lockers and bike rooms often use separate keys. Keep a record.
Smart locks
Ask management before installing a smart lock. Many buildings allow them if they meet specific standards. See smart lock installation.
Rekeying
If you moved in and want to control who holds keys, a rekey may be possible without changing hardware. Ask whether the building needs a copy.

Timing a lockout in the towers
Humber Bay Shores traffic on Lake Shore Boulevard can slow any service vehicle, and towers often limit where a contractor may park or load. Tell the dispatcher which building you are in and the floor, and ask the concierge whether a temporary parking spot or visitor pass can be arranged. If the concierge holds a suite key on file, ask what identification they require before releasing it.
Fobs that do more than one job
In many buildings a single fob opens the lobby, the parkade, the elevators and the gym. Losing it means several doors are open to whoever finds it, so report it right away and ask for it to be deactivated. Do not rely on a replacement being ready the same day; some management offices only issue fobs during office hours.
