What to Expect During an Emergency Locksmith Visit

If you have never called a locksmith in an emergency, the process can feel like a black box. Here is what happens, step by step, so nothing surprises you.

On the phone

You describe the problem and the location. We ask questions about the lock, the door and the situation. We give you an arrival estimate and a price range, and we ask you to have ID ready.

Before we arrive

We may text or call as we get close. If you are outside, stay in a safe, visible place. If someone is in danger, call 911 first.

On arrival

  1. Identification: we show who we are and ask for ID that connects you to the property or the vehicle.
  2. Assessment: we look at the lock and the door and confirm the method and price.
  3. The work: we try non-destructive entry first when it is practical.
  4. Testing: we make sure the lock works with the key and the door closes properly.
  5. Payment and receipt: we confirm the final price, which should match the estimate.

What is normal

  • A price range on the phone that is confirmed on site.
  • Questions about ownership.
  • A recommendation to rekey or replace if keys are lost.

Warning signs

  • A price that changes dramatically on arrival.
  • Pressure to drill or replace a lock without explanation.
  • No ID or business name.

After the visit

Keep the receipt. If the lock or door was damaged, ask about repair options. Consider a rekey if keys are lost.
